The Payroll Manager is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of all payroll functions, including certified payroll reporting. He/She will perform general accounting support to the accounting team on daily and long term projects for the department. He/She will partner with the Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounts Payable, and Staff Accountant positions to ensure all required systems, reports, bookkeeping, projects, and daily tasks are updated and completed.
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to create, decode, modify and adjust formulas using Excel, utilize intermediate functions (e.g. filters, subtotals, vlookups, graphs and charts, if/then formulas, sum if formula, pivot tables, etc). Microsoft Access knowledge is a plus.
Ability to perform complex calculations and confidential functions as identified and needed per Division/Department policy and procedures and federal and state laws and regulations.
Possess extensive knowledge of the full payroll process.
Ability to learn and follow financial modeling.
Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, mathematical operations).
Ability to lead and facilitate the payroll process across multiple disciplines within the company.
Possess excellent time management skills.
Understand applicable labor laws in relationship to payroll (e.g., travel, overtime, apprentices, sick pay)
Ability to hear, read, and speak English in order to communicate with internal and external customers.
Audits reports regularly ensuring accuracy and system integrity.
Works closely with Human Resources to ensure accurate benefit deductions and record keeping. Leads all system upgrades and improvements related to Payroll processing.
Manages the processing of company payroll, including expense reimbursement management. Ensures all applicable systems are synchronized with payroll adjustments. Identifies and reports to management Employee non-compliance. Completes all certified payroll processing to include prevailing wage calculations, certified payroll reporting, and updating all applications as identified. Maintains employee information in payroll systems and Department of Industrial Regulations (DIR) required forms.
Keeps current on Human Resource and related payroll legal changes through membership in various payroll associations and newsletters.
Reconciles payroll accounts to General Ledger and communicates with Staff Accountant. Assists Accounts Payable when business needs dictate.
