The Medical Assistant performs a variety of patient care activities to assist physician/nurse practitioner and nurses with day to day operations. Responsible for supplies in work area and maintaining a safe working environment.
Other Skills and/or Knowledge Required: Knowledge of medical terminology and examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe working environment.
Patient Triage/Flow and Education - Escorts patients to exam room. Appropriately documents patient's vital sign's, current medications and concerns, accurately communicates to physician. Issue education material and assists in application and patient instruction.
Coworker Communication - Practices in a collaborative relationship with team members and other departments. Communicates patients information accurately. Gives pertinent information to appropriate person. Ensures continuity of pertinent information among other staff. Consistently clarifies with nurse questions regarding physician's orders.
Patient Communication - Implements safe and appropriate practice. Provides emotional and psychological support for patients and families. Is knowledgeable of appropriate stages of age growth and development. Communications and care provided is age appropriate.
Preparation - Prepares exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing. Stocks supplies and sterilizes instruments.
Assistance - Assists physicians and nurses with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed. Assists other staff with day to day office operations as needed. Schedules patients for testing procedures, lab and return appointments accurately and in a timely fashion. Call patients back regarding results of test/procedures.
Preparation - Prepare charts for daily schedule. Monitor physicians schedule regarding vacation, follow-up visits, coverage and appointments. Processes orders accurately. Maintains the patient's medical record. Accurately posts and maintains information in chart. Removes duplication of information and/or unnecessary papers from chart. Assures physician progress notes and/or orders are available for use during patient care. Ensures lab reports, x-rays, and other information is in the patient record.
Procedures/Medication - Accurately performs diagnostic testing and procedures such as EKGs, x-rays, no-waived CLIA testing and administers medication. Assists physicians with other testing as required. |
