Position Description

Under the direction of the Assistant Manager of Food Service, functions as the nutritional care liaison between patients and families, nursing units, kitchen staff, and Dietitians to provide timely meals and other nutrition services to patients and families. Provides excellent customer service to patients and families during explanation of the Room Service process, delivery of patient meals, galley supplies, and clean up of all meal services.

Other Skills and/or Knowledge Required: Trained in basic diets, with the ability to identify menu restrictions for therapeutic diets.

Maintain information - Maintains current, accurate nutritional care information for all patients.

Isolation Precautions - Complies with isolation precautions when delivering or retrieving meal trays for patients on isolation.

Menu monitoring - Monitors menu selections for nutritional adequacy and patient preference modifies as necessary.

Unit Galleys - Maintains floor stock par levels and cleanliness of unit galleys.

Room Service - Effectively explains the Room Service process, accurately assessing the patient's ability to fully participate in the Room Service program or assigning the patient to the Assist or Non Select categories. Notifies the Dietitian of any patient concerns.

Diet Manual - Maintains up to date knowledge of current diet manual.

Calorie Counts - Calorie counts are initiated as ordered, reports generated appropriately.

Position Requirements

Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a Basic Sanitation Food card or obtain one within 45 days of employment. On the job training is provided. Must be able to read and write English.

Additional Skills & Experience Requirements: Computer knowledge preferred, excellent customer service skills. One year acute health care food service experience.
