Position Description

 

Typical hours for this position:  Full-Time Position, Mon - Fri, eight (8) hour day shift, hours may vary to meet department needs, will work weekends and holidays as needed.

 

The controller is responsible for planning, coordination, personnel, and management of the fiscal services and the accounting departments. Leads employees to insure that all financial management functions including payroll, accounts payable, general ledger activities, third party cost reports, facility budgets, cost accounting functions, etc. are completed timely and accurately. This facilitates the preparation of timely and accurate financial statement reporting to Administration and the Board of Directors.

Knowledge of systems and processes - Demonstrates knowledge of systems and processes to establish staffing needs to achieve a level of flexibility to meet customer needs. Responsible for maintaining and upgrading the general ledger, time & attendance, payroll, cost accounting, operational and capital budgeting, contract management, and long range financial planning systems. Provides for staff development, appropriate direction, development, & management to train, teach, & coach the staff. Interacts with and serves as a resource person to managers, employees, & outside regulatory agencies regarding accounting, payroll, & IRS issues.

Review and appraisal - Conducts systematic review and continuous appraisal of Fiscal Services and the Accounting Dept., ensuring that standards are maintained. Responsible for setting and measuring goals and operating performance for Fiscal Services and the Accounting Dept.

Budget and audits - Responsible for planning, coordination and completion of the operational budget. Overall responsibility for financial audit and audits by third parties. Responsible for timely preparation of the monthly financial statements and other financial management reports. Prepares, monitors, and controls the Fiscal Services Department budget of expenses. Meets the allotted budget.

Knowledge of laws and regulations - Demonstrates knowledge of management practices and laws and regulations regarding government reimbursement and managed care contract issues and practices.

Productivity programs - Reviews and directs productivity programs, compiles data for reports and maintains current procedure manuals. Maintains high level of productivity while maintaining quality standards.

Work ethic - Exhibits an appropriate work ethic. Demonstrates analytical and problem solving skills and works well as a member of a team to accomplish goals and objectives. Directs, develops, and manages high volume departments to ensure permanent retention and recall of all accounting related information.

Departmental goals - Accomplishes established departmental goals related to quality, quantity, & training. Conducts department meetings on a quarterly basis and keeps staff informed of pertinent information. Completes departmental performance evaluations and evaluations for the Accounting Manager within allotted time frames.
