Provides patient care services via MRI exams/procedures utilizing magnetic resonance imaging as prescribed by physicians. Applies principals of radiation protection and magnetic imaging safety. Provides patient care essential to MRI procedures.
Other Skills and/or Knowledge Required: Basic skills in the science and art of radiologic technology and in the advanced components of magnetic resonance imaging.
Patient Verification - Verifies patient and procedure/examination, order, and any if needed labs before beginning exam. Verifies patient using at least two (2) patient identifiers (name, MR #, DOB). Compares patient information on patient armband with patient chart or information in IDX.
Patient History - Verifies patient history and procedure/examination information. Obtains and documents patient information including history, pregnancy status, procedure(s) performed, and problems encountered.
Patient Needs - Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patient during radiologic procedure(s). Introduces self and explains procedure/ exam to patient. Demonstrates respect for patient modesty and ensures confidentiality. Shows concern for patient comfort while obtaining the desired results as ordered by the physician. Notifies nurse of changes in patient’s condition and administers basic BLS actions when required.
Infection Control - Applies principles of magnetic resonance safety practices, infection control procedures. Applies principles of magnetic imaging safety practices to protect self and others. Strictly obeys isolation and infection control procedures.
Quality Images - Produces quality images within an acceptable amount of time; labels images in accordance with established guidelines. Produces images that are complete and of sufficient quality to be easily read by radiologist. Images are labeled correctly including patient information and anatomical labeling.
Equipment Operation - Demonstrates competency in operation of equipment. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of MRI equipment and its applications. This includes but is not limited to, protocol manipulation, scan manipulation, and new protocol facilitation to ensure proper scan quality is maintained.
Time Management - Uses patient schedule to maximum efficiency. Ensures best use of time by careful coordination of patient schedules, setting priorities, efficient and productive use of time. Responds to changes in the work schedule as necessary, uses down time in helping other area(s) and/or other personnel. Ensures priority assignments are completed while maintaining a high level of quality. Maintains a harmonious relationship with Radiologist and all customers.
