Position Description

Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary, and support areas, via wheelchair, stretcher, cart, or bed as requested. Includes the transport of patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips, and other special equipment. With assistance, transfers patients to or from beds, wheelchairs or stretchers as needed. During discharge, assist patients in and out of vehicles.

Transports patients safely using established procedures. - Informs nurse and patient where they are going and why. Uses bedside computer to check patient out. Uses mode of transportation best suited to patients status. Prepares patient for transport by obtaining robe, footies, braces, telemetry, etc.

Transports all approved types of patients. - Ensures all equipment is properly connected and in good working order. Acquires additional transport assistance when necessary to transport patient.

Isolation and standard precautions - Follows proper isolation and standard precautions when entering a patients room or transporting. Remains up-to-date on infection control policies and procedures.

Patients are transported in an organized and timely manner. - Makes best use of time; transports patients within acceptable time limits. Able to effectively use the Teletracking XT Transport System.

Responds to changes in work schedule as necessary. - Prioritizes and reorganizes workload in response to schedule changes. Ensures priority assignments are completed without sacrificing quality.

Demonstrates knowledge of safety precautions. - Follows established safety procedures during the course of performing daily activities/duties and during drills or actual potentially dangerous situations. Maintains current OSHA standards and strives to ensure proper precautions are taken throughout the department.

Position Requirements

Degree/Diploma: High school diploma or GED

Certification/License Title: CPR Certification

Additional Skills & Experience Requirements: Previous transport experience prefered or is willing to train.
