Position Description

Supervises, coordinates and evaluates the system and personnel responsible for the collection and processing of specimens for diagnostic testing and overall operation of the reception area of the laboratory. Performs duties of safety officer. Performs routine diagnostic testing. Assists in development of outreach services and programs..

Budget - 1. Prepares and is accountable for the laboratory operating budget, uses financial data to monitor and explain variances. 2. Assists in a system of inventory control that maintains operating budget within guidelines; ensures proper storage of reagents and minimizes waste while maintaining levels to meet emergency requests. 3. Anticipates the capital needs of the department and submits capital requests as necessary

Planning - Assists with short and long term planning for the department.

Manages and directs the departments administrative and financial functions - Writes and updates procedure manual as needed and reviews annually. Ensure appropriate staffing to meet workload demands, Schedules, assigns and prioritizes daily workload.

New Procedures, products and instrumentation - Evaluates and recommends new procedures, products and instrumentation. Implements new procedures and instrumentation in accordance with CLIA and OSHA guidelines.

Compliance - Maintains compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies. Maintains compliance with hospital policies and procedures.

Recruitment and Hiring of Staff - Facilitates recruitment of staff through participating in recruitment programs. Interviews and evaluates qualified candidates. Coordinates with Human Resources and Training and Development to ensure appropriate on-boarding of new employees.

Ensures competency of staff - Ensures appropriate orientation and documentation of training and continuing education Provides annual written performance appraisals of assigned staff based on the established standards of practice, including annual objectives that are consistent with department goals. Provides and ensure compliance with annual competencies Addresses sub-standard performance and/or inappropriate behaviors through counseling and in accordance with Medical Center policies

Quality Improvement - Develops and promotes continuous quality improvement; provides an ongoing evaluation of staff, programs and quality of services.

Position Requirements

Degree/Diploma: Bachelors

Additional Educational Requirements: One year internship from an accredited school of Medical Technology.

Certification/License Title: MT/ASCP certification required.  CPR Certification

Years of Experience: 3

Additional Skills & Experience Requirements: Three years experience as medical technologists
