The HVAC Technician inspects, operates, installs and repairs all air moving and associated equipment in and about the Medical Center and off-site facilities utilizing blueprints, diagrams schematics and manufacturer’s recommendations. The HVAC Technician is responsible for verification of current air exchanges and pressurization of various areas within the Medical Center, and produces reports of these findings.
Skills and/or Knowledge Required: An HVAC technician must have specific knowledge of HVAC systems and technology this includes safety procedures, tools, electrical, thermodynamics, air conditioning systems, heating systems, air handling, preventive maintenance and industry regulations and laws.
Works Efficiently to Complete Work Orders (Corrective Maint.) - Makes the best use of both time and materials to complete work in the most efficient manner possible. Prioritizes work effort to address STAT, ASAP and routine problems. Performs high quality work. Completes all assigned task in a timely and effective manner.
Completes Preventive Maintenance - Completes scheduled preventive maintenance (P.M.’s) on assigned equipment in a timely manner. Makes any corrective actions that are needed or informs appropriate team members of needed services.
Repair Coordination/Communication Responsibility - Coordinates equipment repairs or replacement with affected area managers/staff in a timely manner. Effectively keeps Maintenance Assistant Manager appraised of repair/replacement status. Effectively works independently without direct supervision and reacts quickly and accurately in an emergency. Communicates appropriately with other shifts as necessary.
Maintains Tools and Equipment - Ensures that tools are maintained in a manner that keeps them safe to use, in the condition they were intended by the manufacturer for their intended use, and in a condition that does not lead to their premature failure. Tools are not left out in areas where they might be lost or stolen.
Willingness to Accept Direction - Willing to accept direction from Department Leadership as well as from fellow workers as appropriate when assisting them in the performance of specific functions where that fellow worker is leading the activity. Communicates pertinent information to other shifts as appropriate.
Consistently Responsive to On-Call. - Has a positive attitude towards being called in and responds in a timely manner. Resolves problems effectively and efficiently as the situation dictates. Follows established guidelines and procedures for call-in and followup.
Responds to Emergency Situations - Demonstrates knowledge of all emergency codes covered in the Red Alert Book. Responds to fire alarms, disaster codes, utility systems failure, and snow removal as required. Remains on duty during the emergency until situation is alleviated or he/she is relieved by another technician.
