Position Description

Provides primary care to patients following established standards and practices in collaboration with physician in the clinic.

Obtain complete medical history and physical information on patients - Specific to each practice. Obtain complete medical history and physical information on patients. Records diagnostic impressions and evaluates situations calling for attention of a physician to institute treatment procedures. Documentation: Completes all chart dictation requirements for patients within required timeframe.

Medications - Appropriately prescribes and dispenses medications, devices or therapies per the collaborative agreement.

Demonstrates knowledge for age specific factors necessary to perform safe and effective performance of duties. - 1. Evaluates for age appropriate motor skills and psychological norms Recognizes patient’s psychological development. 2. Interview / communication techniques are age appropriate. 3. Assesses safety needs based on age groups and provides safety measures based on assessment. 4. Uses appropriate sized equipment for size and age of patient.

Patient Counseling - Instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health. Provides patient and caretaker education, reviews lab values, etc. Individualizes standing order sheets utilizing physician protocols or consultation with physician. Consults with physician, when appropriate, for care decisions.

Professionalism (Medical Staff) - Achieves an effective working relationship with the Medical Center's medical staff to ensure success of the practice through timely responsiveness to needs of the medical staff.

Efficiency/Cost Effectiveness - Strives to improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of care provided.

Staff education - Cooperates with the development of in-service education programs designed to meet the educational needs of physician and non-physician personnel. Seeks learning experiences/responsibilities to strengthen areas requiring development and to advance knowledge about other current development in nursing.

Position Requirements

Educational Requirements: Graduate from accredited school of nursing and successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner Program.

Additional Certification/Licensure Requirements: Current license as a Registered Nurse and an Advanced Practice Nurse by the State of Missouri.  CPR Certification and ACLS Certification

Additional Skills & Experience Requirements: Three years experience as a family nurse practitioner preferred. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe working environment. Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, physicians, staff and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards and maintain calm and effective reactions during emergency situations. Ability to communicate clearly, as well as understanding and responding to detailed oral and written instructions. Ability to learn and efficiency utilize diagnostic equipment, electronic systems for ordering, medical records and other common computer programs.
