Position Description


Typical hours for this position:  Part-Time Position, Mon - Fri, rotating day/evening/night shifts, days of week worked will vary, must have a flexible schedule with availability to work day/evening/night shifts, will work every other weekend and rotating holidays.


Under the direction of the Charge Nurse, Patient Care Manager, Director and Vice President of Patient Care, the Telemetry Room Arrhythmia Technician on the Progressive Care Unit is responsible for effective and efficient communication control in the Telemetry Room. The Arrhythmia Technician is responsible for surveillance of arrhythmia on monitored patients

Accurately observes and reports patient cardiac rhythm and / or pressures on the monitor to nurse or telemetry nurse. Gives consistent, thorough report of patient's rhythm and pertinent events to oncoming Arrhythmia Tech. Relays problems with other departments, peers, medical staff or floor personnel to Manager. Receives messages and relays them to the appropriate person (e.g., patient, nursing staff, physician, SPD, and other departments).

Effectively Carries Out Technical Aspects of Arrhythmia Tech Responsibilities. Observes EKG and pressure monitors and reports any changes in pattern on monitor to clinical nurse and / or telemetry nurse. Records and prints strips for chart. Measures PR, QRS and QT. Performs EKGs, as needed. Assigns monitor device to patient and labels telemetry channel appropriately for current patients and new admissions. Cleans equipment between patient use. Distributes rhythm strips to appropriate units. Changes batteries and EKG patches, as needed. Initiates work orders at the nurse's direction. Accurately completes and maintains Daily PCU Logs: yellow cards, blue cards, computer. Completes admission and discharge duties accurately.


Position Requirements

High School Diploma or GED Required

Certification/License Title: 
Current BLS CPR certification required.

Additional Skills & Experience:
Previous computer experience required. Previous clerical experience required (preferably in medical field). Prior arrhythmia training preferred. Successful completion of medical terminology course preferred. Completion of a Medical Terminology course preferred.
