Position Description

The Grounds Technician II is an employee who performs a variety of unskilled and semiskilled jobs in and about the Medical Center and off-site facilities. The Grounds Technician II is responsible for cutting of grass, trimming, raking leaves, control of weeds, and trash pick up on parking lots, around buildings and at entrances, constructs and maintains fences, gates and flower beds. The Grounds Technician II carries out routine maintenance of power equipment and vehicles under the direction of the Landscape Designer/Grounds Coordinator or Maintenance Assistant Manager.

Works Efficiently to Complete Work Orders (Corrective Maint.) - Makes the best use of both time and materials to complete work in the most efficient manner possible. Prioritizes work effort to address STAT, ASAP and routine problems. Performs high quality work. Completes all assigned task in a timely and effective manner.

Completes Preventive Maintenance - Completes scheduled preventive maintenance (P.M.’s) on assigned equipment in a timely manner. Makes any corrective actions that are needed or informs appropriate team members of needed services.

Equipment Maintenance - Cleans, checks and lubricates grounds equipment as necessary to it all in good working order and to prolong it's life. Assist with vehicle service and maintenance program. Fuel vehicles as needed and take them to service agencies for service as needed. Also take care of licensing vehicles as they are due.

Implements Safe and Appropriate Practices. - Maintains a clean and safe work area. Safely operate equipment. Utilizes proper safety practices when performing job functions (lock out/ tag out, confined space, hazardous materials...). Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting.

Willingness to Accept Direction - Willing to accept direction from Department Leadership as well as from fellow workers as appropriate when assisting them in the performance of specific functions where that fellow worker is leading the activity. Communicates pertinent information to other shifts as appropriate.

Effectively Performs Other Duties as Assigned. - Willing to take on new duties, even outside normal responsibilities, as assigned. Assist in other job functions as needed or as workload demands when requested by Assistant Manager or his/her designee.

Responds to Emergency Situations - Demonstrates knowledge of all emergency codes covered in the Red Alert Book. Responds to fire alarms, disaster codes, utility systems failure, and snow removal as required. Remains on duty during the emergency until situation is alleviated or he/she is relieved by another technician.

Position Requirements

Degree/Diploma: High School Diploma

Additional Skills & Experience Requirements: One (1) to three (3) years job related experience.
