Position Description


Typical hours for this position:  Part-Time Position, Mon - Fri, day/evening shifts, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM, 11:30 AM - 8:00 PM and 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM, days of week worked and shifts will vary, must have a flexible scheduled to meet needs of the department with availability to work all day/evening shifts as needed, will work rotating weekends and holidays.


Responsible for preparation and service of meals served to patients and customers. Customer service skills meet the expectation of the Medical Center's standards of practice. Serves food items on patient trayline, ensuring accuracy of prescribed diet. Serves Restaurant customers quality food at the proper temperature and portion size. May operate a cash register. Maintains work area and equipment in a clean, orderly and sanitary condition. Ensures that all food and supplies are properly labled and stored as required by County and State regulatory agencies. May operate dish machine, and/or wash pots and pans.

Other Skills and/or Knowledge Required: Ability to read and write English, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions. Must possess a Basic Sanitation Food card or obtain one within 45 days of employment.

Personal care - Maintains good handwashing techniques, personal hygiene, wears protective equipment as needed for position.

Prep and Serve - Accurately prepares and serves food items using correct preparation and serving methods.

Replenishes stock - Replenishes stock as needed for work station and/or department requisitions

Daily tasks - Completes daily duties within acceptable time frames so as not to interfere with service times. Assists co-workers as needed.

Meal Trays - Ensures accuracy of the set up and/or delivery of patient meal trays

Position Requirements


Degree/Diploma: High School Diploma or GED

Program of Study: General Studies

Required/Preferred:  Preferred

Certification/License Title:  Current Basic Food Handler's Certificaton or must obtain certification within 45 days of date of hire.

Additional requirements: 1 year experience cooking for hospital or nursing home facility.
