Position Description

The Public Relations and Content Manager’s (PRCM) role is to increase exposure and recognition for JAMS and its panelists, and ensure JAMS and its panelists are viewed in the best possible light. The position requires frequent and proactive interaction with panelists, associates and the media and the production of value-added marketing and advertising content activities targeted to JAMS clients and prospects.

Public Relations - Responsible for the organization and implementation of JAMS’s public relations and media efforts; identify public relations opportunities and oversee outside PR agency to achieve results that enhance JAMS; draft, edit and distribute press releases; seek opportunities for JAMS and its neutrals to receive positive coverage in targeted legal and business media, as well as other industry trades; identify and monitor trends in the legal industry and translate into public relations opportunities; actively assist neutrals with the placement and editing of articles and expert commentary in media outlets of all types, including newspapers, business and trade publications and online publications

Agency Management - Manage the daily aspects of work with our U.S. domestic public relations agency; this includes developing annual PR plans, overseeing and monitoring assignments, and ensuring that JAMS is getting maximum ROI from the agency; partner with the CMO, DMC, PDM (Global), and the Deputy Director of JAMS in London on specific international PR projects; participate in monthly calls with international PR agency

Media Relations - Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries, information and interviews; provide message points and interview tactics as needed; manage and work with Director of Marketing and Communications (DMC) on any crisis management requirements; oversee and track media hits and distribute coverage to appropriate parties

Project Management - Manage the neutral launch process on behalf of National Marketing by coordinating with VP of Corporate Development on new recruits, scheduling launch dates, attending launch meetings, overseeing PR aspect of launch, reviewing bios and work order; provide writing and editing for a range of marketing needs, including web site content, e-campaigns, collateral and advertising, when appropriate

External Publications - Develop and manage practice area newsletters; work with PDM on neutral outreach and to identify timely topics; work with PD team and WMDAS on marketing and distribution; develop and oversee an editorial agenda and content to be published regularly in online publications across several markets that positions JAMS/neutrals as thought-leaders or highlights priority practice areas

Content/Advertising - Write and lead editorial calendars for various content related marketing including native advertising

Budget - Prepare and manage public relations budget; identify costs and cost savings opportunities related to the JAMS newsletters

Other Projects - Raise the organization’s profile through traditional and social media channels and outreach; manage a high volume and diverse set of projects, tasks and responsibilities, with a range of complexity as needed; available for any other projects designated by manager

Media - Understanding of the media industry, e.g. how publications decide what articles to publish

Communication - Excellent written & verbal communication skills; written documents (press releases, blog posts, etc.) should be compelling, concise and error free; conversations with the media, neutrals and JAMS managers should convey a solid command of the topics being discussed

Legal - Should have a good understanding of the legal industry, and be motivated to increase that understanding over time through reading, as well as consultation with staff and neutrals

Web/Social Media - PRCM should be current as it relates to web marketing & social media trends and tools; they should actively monitor the legal landscape for online opportunities (web sites, blogs, discussion forums, etc.)

Client Service - Focused on meeting or exceeding expectations of internal (neutrals, regional staff, SMT) and external clients

 

Position Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in a related field (marketing, communications, etc.) preferred
- At least eight to ten years of public relations experience
- Experience within the legal or other professional services industry a plus

- Talking with the media, panelists, and staff over the phone for extended periods of time
- Effectively and articulately communicate with outside parties about JAMS and its services
- Local and occasional national travel
