Position Description

This is a unique opportunity for a transit leader with one of the nation’s most respected and successful transportation planning firms.

Public transit is changing and evolving more rapidly than ever.  With the introduction of transportation network companies, increased investments in active transportation projects and programs, shared mobility, and anticipated adoption of autonomous vehicles, the boundaries between public, peer-to-peer, and private transportation – and the potential impacts on travelers, urban areas, and transit agencies –challenges the conventional approaches to transit planning across North America. Our new Transit and Shared Mobility Practice Leader will lead our practice to help our clients and the industry as a whole.

The Integrated Planning and Policy group provides fully integrated planning and management as well as project development services for our clients. The newly restructured group encompasses four national practice areas: Planning and Policy; Freight and Economics; Safety; and Transit and Shared Mobility. We apply our national knowledge and leadership while leveraging the strength of regional expertise to intimately understanding of our clients’ needs.

The National Practice Lead for Transit and Shared Mobility will collaborate with business development teams and regional leaders as well as project managers to develop and implement client-responsive integrated technical approaches, methodologies, tools, and processes built on best practices, while leveraging our strengths in travel demand modeling, ridership forecasting, data analytics and software to help support our clients through this dynamic time.

We seek a leader who has demonstrates exceptional abilities to understand clients’ needs and expectations and to provide strategic direction within teams.

Key skills to excel include collaborative leadership and relationship building with clients, strategic development of new business, and project management, as outlined in greater detail below. We also seek exceptional capabilities in oral written, presentation and interpersonal communication.

Essential Functions

National Practice Lead

Develops and implements BD strategies in functional area •Develops and retains collaborative relationships with current and prospective clients and teaming partners •Proactively identifies and positions for strategic and priority leads • Drives revenue and profitable growth •Collaborates with BD teams, regional BD leaders, and project managers to develop and implement integrated technical approaches, methodologies, tools, and processes that reflect best practices •Leads a core team of consultants focused on growing a functional area •Collaborates with core team in the development of annual business plan for functional area •Mentors staff in the areas of business development and client relationship management

Business Development
•Proactively identifies market trends and opportunities. •Actively engages with other
CS staff in identifying, developing, and pursuing high priority leads and growth opportunities •Invests time and resources to build long-term relationships with clients and team partners •Provides exceptional value-added service to clients (internal and external) •Strives to develop long-lasting client relationships •Actively listens and seeks to understand client needs •Develops effective win themes and pricing strategies for all proposals •Effectively constructs winning project teams from internal and external resources •Works with Marketing, Contracts, and Production to develop winning proposals

Project Management
•Manages a small portfolio of high visibility/high risk projects •Delivers on time and exercises sound financial judgment •Demonstrates good decision-making and judgment •Understands client’s needs and project objectives and actively works to achieve them •Provides constructive and ongoing feedback to project team members •Provide clear direction to all project staff regarding project objectives and their role in achieving them •Provides constructive feedback to staff regarding their performance on your projects •Provides QC check of all deliverables before they are provided to the client •Regularly update project staffing in CS staffing program •Provide timely review and approval of all project invoices


Position Requirements

• At least 15 years of experience in the transportation industry, with a strong focus on transit and rail; consulting experience preferred
• Bachelor degree in planning, engineering, business/finance or related field. Master degree strongly preferred
