Position Summary

The Student, Public Equities at AIMCo will have a unique opportunity to not only learn from an experienced and focused team of investment professionals, but also contribute to the financial security of hundreds of thousands of Albertans.

In this role, you will gain experience in analyzing a diverse set of investment opportunities within the Public Equities group by participating in projects pertaining to quantitative investments, fundamental equity research, external funds, index and overlays, or trading. Most of the summer will be spent under the guidance of the External Funds team, where you will get to meet world class equity and hedge fund managers and be responsible for managing cash flows, transaction forecasting, monitoring performance and fees and maintaining a database of information for externally managed funds.

Students must exhibit a high degree of professionalism and can expect to be exposed to meetings and calls with other asset management firms. 

You will know success when you have established the confidence of the team to observe and assist in the external manager investment due diligence and portfolio construction process. You will also become familiar with programs like FactSet, S&P CapIQ, Barra, Bloomberg, eVestment and Style Analytics.

Our Ideal Candidate

• In pursuit of an undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, or other related fields

• Demonstrated interest in investing and analyzing businesses in various industries

• Excellent knowledge of finance, accounting, and economic concepts

• Strong research, analytical, quantitative and problem-solving abilities

• Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills

• Exceptional attention to detail and strong work ethic

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines

• Adept at building strong collaborative relationships with team members

• Proven track record of outstanding academic achievement and participation in relevant extracurricular activities

• Registration or progress towards attaining the Chartered Financial Analyst designation is an asset

• High proficiency with Microsoft Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

• Familiarity with VBA, SQL, Python, or R is an asset
