Position Summary

The Private Investment Assets team at AIMCo is comprised of passionate investment professionals who love applying their analytical prowess in a collaborative setting to add great value for our clients. This team works together to support the asset management function of AIMCo’s Infrastructure, Renewable Resources, and Private Equity Investments and they are seeking two new analysts to join them in their efforts.

Highly successful Analysts share many of the same characteristics. They are self-starting, intellectually curious, results focused with exceptional finance, data, programming and communications skills. They are relationship builders and able to interact with diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders. They support one another through challenges and enthusiastically celebrate team accomplishments. Often, they are in the process of enrolling into the CFA program or have already started.

In this role, you will be exposed to AIMCo’s direct investments and our externally managed funds. You will take on the team’s daily cash management functions for private investment pools, provide investment performance analysis and contribute to internal and client reports. Not only will you further enhance your existing analytical skill sets, but you will also refine your communication skills under the guidance of senior team members.

Responsibilities will include:  

  • Monitoring portfolio cash flows, including capital calls, dividends, loan or interest repayments, FX transactions, tax refunds or payments, and expense payments
  • Authority to request and distribute values up to CAD $5 million in order to maintain a reasonable cash balance for each Private Investment pool
  • Reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual financials of investments
  • Supporting the asset management requirements of Private Investments
  • Monitoring investment and pool performance
  • Providing broad performance attribution and risk analysis to support investment decisions and overall portfolio management.
  • Preparing investment and portfolio performance as required, for weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual internal, external or ad-hoc reporting.
  • Supporting currency management and review currency hedging reports as needed.
  • Daily cash management
  • Development and updates of Excel models

You will understand the strengths of your team members and collaborate to deliver the very best results for the organization and our clients.  

Our Ideal Candidate
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business or a related quantitative field such as Economics, Mathematics, etc.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a related field such as financial analysis or accounting
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Ability to work in a team and be collaborative, but to also work independently when needed
  • Finance knowledge including foreign exchange, swaps and currency forward, loan and interest calculation, internal rate of return, discount cash flow and performance attribution
  • General accounting knowledge; ability to read and use financial statements
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Investment modeling experience would be an asset
  • Pursuit of the CFA designation is an asset
