Position Summary

AIMCo’s Business Technology Delivery team is responsible for the execution of large-scale projects that support the growing needs of the organization. The Business Technology team partners with various areas of the firm to provide strategic solutions for a wide range of AIMCo’s functions such as public and private investments, investment finance, operations, etc.

The Delivery team includes a strong group of Business Analysts, Project Managers, Business System Analysts, Developers and Quality Assurance Analysts who are involved in several large application development projects. Some of the current tasks of the team include the implementation of new financial products and portfolio management strategies, large scale data onboarding, processing, systems replacements and upgrades.

The Senior Business Analyst will be part of the team executing the largest program in the BT portfolio this year – the Multi-Asset Class Risk Management System. This large-scale undertaking includes the full project development life cycle and the mandate includes identifying, procuring, implementing and migration to the new primary risk system, which needs to be capable of meeting the Risk goals and objectives of AIMCo.

The new platform will provide the ability to run different risk models, methodologies and approaches, which expand and build on the investment risk processes that are in place today. The platform will be a multi-asset class risk system which will need to have extensive reporting capabilities. Integration of this new software into the Business Technology architecture and standards, including alignment with AIMCo’s data requirements and operational needs, will need to be considered within the scope of this project.

As a Senior Business Analyst within the Business Technology Delivery team working closely with the Risk Management team, you will work extensively in capturing and helping define business requirements across multiple stakeholders and work through challenges to address process gaps. Other accountabilities will include:

  • Work closely with the Business Technology (BT) Management team, Project Manager and Business Stakeholders to facilitate the successful completion of the Project deliverables.
  • Work closely with the Investment Risk Management Team on the project scope, data requirements, risk methodologies, valuations models to create requirements for new risk system.
  • Work with Investment Risk Management Team to select appropriate system as a future risk system.
  • Work with vendor and Business Technology teams on execution of the Project, through initiation, planning, build, testing, deployment and close out phases.
  • Keep abreast of methodological developments in the market and “best practices” in Risk Management, and effectively apply these principles.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • 5 to 7 years of related work experience in Investment or Banking is required, preferably in a Canadian Pension Institution.
  • Degree in Management Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance or related field is required.
  • Exposure to Portfolio Management and knowledge of Financial Products is required.
  • Knowledge of Risk Management (broad understanding and experience with Risk management methodologies, particularly VaR and stress testing).
  • Strong proficiency with Excel and programming knowledge in VBA and SQL.
  • Experience working with large data sets.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to take the lead on solving challenging problems.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills, troubleshooting skills and a solutions-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A natural leader with strong relationship building skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines while paying attention to details.
  • Ability to work in a high-paced, stressful, team-based environment.


Additional Skills

  • CFA, FRM or similar designations are definite assets.
  • Prior experience with Risk systems such as FactSet or Askari would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in trading systems such as Calypso or Charles River.


The anticipated duration of this fixed-term position (or secondment) is up to 12 months.
