Position Summary

The Accountant, Foreign Real Estate Accounting supports the financial reporting requirements of the foreign real estate portfolio, which includes European and US real estate. This involves collecting, reviewing and loading financial data from property managers into the Real Estate accounting system, reconciling to AIMCo book of record, and recording appropriate adjustments to comply with IFRS and internal reporting standards.


The Accountant will assist with the production of consolidated financial statements, compliant with IFRS and AIMCo standards. In addition, the Accountant will support the collection of accounting and financial reporting as required by AIMCo's investment teams.


Other responsibilities include:

  • Collecting financial data from external managers, review, validate and reconcile to AIMCo investment records.
  • Maintaining the FREP Holdings general ledger and reconcile intercompany balances to ensure they are accurate.
  • Uploading financial data received from external managers to AIMCo's accounting system.
  • Applying accounting adjustments to convert financial statements received in local accounting standards to AIMCo Standard & IFRS.
  • Setting up entities / new investments in Yardi, applying the relevant setup rules as it relates to foreign real estate structures.
  • Liaising with auditors to complete audit of consolidated financial statements on an annual basis.
  • Creating and documenting processes and procedures while incorporating best practices within AIMCo.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • Possesses an undergraduate degree and is progressing towards attaining a professional accounting designation (preferably CPA)
  • Has the ability to recognize different accounting treatments used and apply adjustments required to convert to AIMCo accounting standard and IFRS
  • Understands complex financial statement concepts such as business combinations and foreign currency translation. 
  • Is knowledgeable of accounting and investment management software (preferably Yardi and/or SimCorp Dimension).
  • Is proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel
