Position Summary

The Analyst, Private Placements, is responsible performing fundamental credit analysis on private placement investments, for completing annual reviews, as well as assigning an internal risk rating to each investment held in the portfolio.  The Analyst, Private Placements will be an active member of the Private Placement team across a range of monitoring and administrative processes including: post-investment monitoring activities, researching general market trends as well as project work.  When up to date on portfolio requirements the candidate will assist with investment screening, financial and accounting analysis, industry, sector analysis and preparation of investment recommendation memos.


  • Monitor financial markets for events that could impact the credit profile or value of each investment.  Initiate commentary on developing news and trends as requested.
  • Interface with outside investment professionals to obtain required information for adequate monitoring.
  • Monitor and track Issuer financial covenant performance against required covenants and highlight variations to senior staff.  Bring forward issues / trends which may impact the credit profile or value of the investment.
  • Ensure that internal ratings reflect the current credit profile of each investment and contribute to the annual review process of each internal rating.
  • Produce quarterly and annual portfolio reporting, as required.
  • Select appropriate proxies for each investment and support the development of sensitivity and scenario analysis.
  • Participate in due diligence of potential investments.  Perform preliminary analysis of investment opportunities, review of information, identification of key merits and perform competitive SWOT review.  Judge the Issuers ability to deliver on their stated business plan over the term of the investment.
  • Perform a fundamental credit analysis, which includes reviewing the business and financial profiles of the underlying company (e.g. historical and projected financial results).
  • Work with borrowers to build detailed financial models, including performing extensive sensitivity analysis to test assumptions.
  • Identify and highlight factors which mitigate the main risks for a given investment.
  • Attribute internal ratings based on peer analysis and existing rating agency methodologies.  Express rating considerations as they relate to probability of default and loss recovery scenarios.



Our Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor’s university degree (Finance / Accounting) with high academic standing.
  • Program enrollment in a professional designation such as CPA or CFA, an asset.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills (e.g. read and interpret financial statements & perform fundamental credit analysis).
  • Project management skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and strong communication skills resulting in effective and well-focused credit memorandums.
  • Good attention to detail and presentation of information.
  • Superior level of proficiency with business software and analytical tools, such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Capital IQ, Bloomberg.
  • English required bilingualism an asset.
