Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, IT Infrastructure Support, the Systems Engineer manages all of the organizations system hardware and software. The Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring the optimized performance, integrity and security for all IT infrastructure systems, including Windows, Exchange, storage area networks, backup technology, servers, VMWare and Active Directory.

 

The Systems Engineer is also responsible for ensuring that the network is secure, robust and stable in support of the business by having a sound understanding of client processes and applying expertise in the areas of hardware, software and technologies in general.

 

Other responsibilities include:

 

  • Strategic planning, architecting, network design, operating systems and systems software administration, capacity planning and project management
  • Providing expertise and direction in IT infrastructure operations and controls, ensuring integrity of the servers and data storage
  • System administration for Exchange, vSphere, Active Directory, Windows operating systems and other infrastructure software and hardware components
  • Server and SAN strategic planning, architecting and design
  • Managing all network software and monitoring tools to enable optimum performance and ensuring that components of the disaster recovery infrastructure and technical plans are maintained
  • Ensuring the security of servers and data, maintaining software licenses and server inventory and that security patches/patch levels are implemented in a timely manner
Our Ideal Candidate
  • Degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field is required
  • Expert knowledge of Windows operating systems and server networking
  • Expert knowledge in architecting the computing infrastructure for new applications and services
  • Expert knowledge in DNS, Active Directory, Exchange and Virtualization
  • Knowledge of Storage (SAN) and Enterprise Backup technologies
  • Knowledge of patch and server management software, SQL server, server monitoring tools and performance tuning
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies relating to network security, operating systems and computing infrastructure
  • Knowledge of industry best practice, policies and procedures
