Position Summary

The Security Architect is responsible for ensuring that AIMCo, including its systems, data, and people, is protected from security threats at all times.  This role will work together with the other members of AIMCo’s Information Security and Governance Team to ensure that AIMCo develops, maintains, and operates an appropriate and effective Cyber Security Programme at both the strategic and tactical levels.  The architect will be involved in long-term strategic planning as well as in detailed technical problem solving.  The architect will work to ensure that on a day-to-day basis he or she is aware of the security landscape and is kept informed of the changing threats to our organization.

Working with a number of teams within the organization, this role helps to ensure that the right security controls, programs, processes and capabilities are in place, operating effectively and efficiently.  This role will work closely with the Security Analysts in selecting the right solutions, implementing those solutions and providing ongoing support.

Responsibilities will include:
 

  • Ensuring that the appropriate monitoring capabilities and response processes are operating effectively to allow AIMCo to identify and respond to security  incidents.
  • Ensuring that the performance of the cyber security program at AIMCo is appropriately measured and reported on to provide an accurate view of our security posture.
  • Reviewing tickets and changes assigned to the information security team using sound judgment to respond or escalate as required.
  • Assisting with planning the delivery of security solutions; answering technical and procedural questions and providing guidance as required.
  • Maintaining security by monitoring and ensuring compliance to standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Understanding emerging security practices and standards; keeping abreast of the latest security trends.
  • Performing other operational duties as required on all security related systems for which he/she is responsible.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • Five to ten years of experience in Information Security.
  • University degree or technical diploma in Computer Science or related program from an accredited post-secondary institution preferred.
  • Offense Security’s certifications and certifications from SANS 500 and 600-level courses are highly valuable.  The ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge is also acceptable.
  • Willingness to pursue additional training in a related area within one year of hire.
  • Familiar with the CIS Critical Security Controls and their implementation.
  • Familiar with ISO27001/2.
  • Experience with implementing a SSDLC.
  • Proficient technical, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact and build strong relationships with all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge and discipline to document processes and applications.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously within established time constraints.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Effective time management, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to respond professionally in situations with difficult employee/vendor/customer issues or inquiries.
  • Knowledge of computer networking fundamentals, theory and practice (IPv4, IPv6, routing, switching, OSI model); CCNP level knowledge highly valuable.
  • Knowledge of secure computer programming is highly valuable. (The specific language is irrelevant; the basics of memory allocation, function calls, and process flow control are more important).
