Position Summary

The Project Manager, Project Management Office (PMO), is responsible for the oversight and delivery of strategic projects for AIMCo. The incumbent will be expected to lead project initiatives, will be relied on to enhance governance models and collaboration between teams, as well as deliver assigned projects on time, on budget and in scope. The Project Manager will also be responsible for:


Ensuring the advancement, thorough monitoring and delivery of projects:

  • Ensure the delivery timeframe is clear, documented, communicated and understood by the team.
  • Ensure the work is carried out in compliance with the quality standards, methodology and various processes, while remaining within the project framework (budgets, timeframes, meeting requirements).
  • Track budgets, financial forecasts and deadlines for each of the assigned projects.
  • Collect, analyze and take actions based on project specific metrics, such as Earned Value Management.
  • Proactively identify the risks, dependencies and problems related to the project and recommend appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Escalate issues and risks, as appropriate, with a particular focus on strategic implications.
  • Coordinate deliverables with internal and external project team members.
  • Coordinate all activities required to carry out the initiatives.


Ensuring the implementation of robust project governance (decisions, project/management committees):

  • Make sure that important decisions, change requests and use of the contingency are well documented and presented to the proper committees. Also ensure that the impacts are validated by all groups involved.
  • Make sure that project steering and management committees have enough information to make decisions.
  • Make sure that there is a solid communication and change management plan in place.
  • Participate in establishing delivery priorities and coordinate project delivery with the lines of business.
  • Participate with other project team members in implementing tools and processes related to project delivery based on AIMCo’s Delivery Methodology.
  • Provide technical support to team and help them with solutions requiring implementation.
  • Identifying and managing project/program priorities by successfully mitigating dependencies and competing priorities across related portfolio/program initiatives. Such priority management includes resource estimate assessment and resource forecasting so that bottlenecks are eliminated or minimized.
  • Leading internal or external teams as needed to ensure effective and efficient use of resources and delivery of business value.

Job Requirements

• A University degree (Computer Science, Business, Finance or equivalent) preferred
• 7+ years of professional experience in progressively project delivery roles, preferably in investment management or financial services
• Hands on experience managing software development projects and COTS implementation and configuration initiatives in an environment with limited/shared resources (experience managing IT infrastructure and business process improvement projects are also an asset).
• Hands on experience with business analysis methodologies/frameworks
• Hands on experience managing project utilizing agile methodologies (i.e. Scrum, TDD, XP)
• Hands on experience managing projects utilizing MS Project and TFS (Working experience with Project Portfolio Management systems, such as MS Project Server is an asset)
• Demonstrated experience leading multi-million dollar initiatives involving 10+ team members
• Professional certification in Project Management (i.e. PMP, Prince 2)
• Professional certification in financial industry-related topics is desirable (i.e. Claritas, Canadian Securities Course, CFA)
• Professional certification in Business Analysis is desirable (i.e. CBAP)
